Why Teach Cybersmart?

The Big Why

"Cybersmart learning is embedded in our Manaiakalani goals and supports our learn, create, share pedagogy.

Being Cybersmart empowers our learners as connected citizens. When their learning is visible and accessible, anytime, any place, at any pace, our young people learn to make smart decisions and understand that every time they connect, collaborate and share online it combines to create their digital footprint."

The internet is not a safe place. We empower our students with knowledge to help them be smart online to keep themselves safe.

The Cybersmart programme is broken down into iPad and Chromebook lessons. Each term there is a different Cybersmart focus; Term One is Smart Learner, Term Two is Smart Footprint, Term Three is Smart Relationships and Term Four is Smart User. These Foci allow new teachers to develop knowledge on how to use digital tools in their classrooms and also how to embed Learn, Create, Share into their practice.

Explore the different content by clicking on the Cybersmart Tab at the top of this page. You can find a break down of the lesson content in the teacher notes and are welcome to use and apply any of the lessons to your context.
